are we listening…

i hear my cat snoring,
the birds singing the
dawn chorus, a car
goes by, the cat at
the scratching post
meowing to be fed.
the neighbour putting
the rubbish ou.t more
cars going by. the
laptop whirring into
life, adverts for life
changing mattress
on the television, next
doors dogs barking,
the whizz of a cyclist
going fast, the puffing
and panting of a runner
as they struggle uphill,
people talking, footsteps
behind me, birds chirping,
people talking, the hiss of
bus doors opening, trolleys
chattering in the supermarket
carpark, more cars and vans,
more adverts on the television
and the bottle of wine opened
before i go to bed.
