he watched the man begin to slide
ever so slowly at first, then faster
and faster as he is carried on an
unstoppable tsunami of hungry mud
eager to devour him, to chew at every
sinew, every muscle, enter every nerve,
every blood vessel before finally pulling
him down into its belly where it will enter
his mouth, sliding over his tongue down
his windpipe and into his lungs filling them
with thick, slimy mud that stops him
breathing and chokes the life out of him.
a slender figure appears on the edge,
holds out a hand and pulls the man out
of the mud with strength that belies her
size, wraps an arm around him and says
gently, everything will be alright
