It’s been a grey day, overcast, raining, sometimes heavy, other times drizzle, the odd break in the clouds for the sun to break through, but mainly rain. I haven’t done much, caught up with stuff I’ve been putting off for one reason or another and with it being Tuesday I’ve been running with Calder Valley and the committee meeting after.
The rain was putting me off running, I didn’t want to go as running slowly in the rain can be unpleasant at best. However, I have started a new group and it’s only the second week, so I felt obligated to go and it turns out I was glad I did.
I got there early as I like to do and was trying to remember where I had left my running shoes that I had last week. I’ve searched my house, my car, everywhere, but I couldn’t find them. Then I remembered that I wore them last week when I ran from the community centre at Mytholmroyd and asked behind the desk if anyone had handed them in. Much to my relief someone had! I had taken them off last week and left them outside and thankfully the people of Mytholmroyd are honest and I’ve got them back. Mystery solved!
There wasn’t many people for the club run this week, but that didn’t matter. For my group there was only me and another lass, so we had a run in the drizzle through the Burlap Woods above Mytholmroyd. It was a good choice. Plenty of variation, mud, puddles, climbs and descent and I manged to fall at one point but having a well-padded backside meant that no damage was done, and I carried on as if nothing had happened. The run was short, only 3 miles, but there is something magical about running through mist and drizzle in the woods and it makes it that little bit special.
After the run it was over to the pub for the committee meeting. I had a coke even though something at the back of my mind was telling me to get a beer and went to the meeting. There wasn’t many of us there so the meeting was over quickly and soon I was on my way home driving on Keighley Road over the moors. Once again the thought of having a drink flashed through my mind but despite going to Tesco’s for some bits I resisted and soon I was back home again after a nice, quiet day.
