The diary of an inconsequential person – 3

Wednesday, 14 June 2023

Woke with a wine induced hangover and couldn’t work out if it was morning or evening or what day it was. I felt really strange and after checking the date and time I fell asleep again and had a weird dream where I knew the area and some of the people. It felt really realistic, a bit too realistic for me, but when I woke again, I felt a bit better.

I put my lottery numbers on in the vain hope that I win a decent amount which is enough to buy a nice little house somewhere quiet and I can live an even more inconsequential life than I already do. I then decided to run! I’m not getting slimmer and even though my hip aches because of the arthritis, I need to do something more than walk in order to shift the fat. I thought about going up on the moors as it’s another, unbearably hot day, but the views are heavenly and worth the effort to get high up to see them. I decided against the moors as it’s too risky with my hip being as it is and I know that all it takes is one slip, my hip goes, and I’m stuck on the moors unable to move beyond a crawl and it’ll take me an hour or more to get back to my car.

So, I decided to go to one of my favourite spots, not far from where I live and if anything does go wrong with my hip I can get back to my car and back home in a reasonable time. I parked up and immediately noticed a car next to me that looked as if it had been stolen and dumped, a back window was broken, dints on the bodywork, taillights smashed in. I did the decent thing and reported it to the police. They had nothing on their systems about it but said they would check it out. I looked around and noticed Blackdyke Mill framed in some tree branches. It looked a perfect shot, so I got out my phone and took it. I was pleased with the result, a different perspective of Blackdyke Mill that I had never noticed before.

Good deed and photo done I set off on my run and it was good. I was moving better than I have done for a while and apart from one bit where I had to avoid a herd of cows who clearly weren’t enjoying the heat and I decided it was better to go around them in case they decided to take their discomfort out on me and another where I decided to go exploring and all I found was a barbed wire fence, it was a nice run, nothing fast or far but a lot better than I have been doing recently. I did wonder if it was the 4 paracetamols I took before that helped, but whatever, I enjoyed it and that’s all that matters.

I popped into Tesco’s before I went home for things I don’t really need, energy drinks and more fruit. I saw a mate and told him about my arthritis, and he told me about his. He told me to ‘man up’ and I told him that moaning about everything was one of the few pleasures in life we both had left. He agreed and we went on our separate ways. Back home a friend asked me if I wanted to go to a pub quiz tonight and I said, ‘yeah why not’, so that’s my evening sorted. I then did what I do best which is play pointless games on my laptop although I tell myself I’m improving my brain by playing them and did some tidying up but not too much. My little cat is outside enjoying herself in the sunshine and I’m writing this and wondering what to wear for tonight. I’ve no idea why I’m wondering what to wear as I’ll wear what I always wear, t-shirt and shorts. Some things never change.

I walk down to the pub for the quiz in the warm, evening sunshine. It’s a beautiful evening even if the heat is becoming a but too much now. At the pub I met my friend and we sat down ready for the quiz. The quiz was tough! The quiz mistress wasn’t the best as she had trouble reading some of her own questions and had to get other people to ask some of the questions because she couldn’t pronounce some of the words, and some of the questions were hard! Flowers and years were 2 sections we really struggled on but we ended up with 21 out of 40 and we didn’t come last so it was a good night. Home, a glass or two of wine, some Benidorm and bed after a good day.
