I woke feeling rough. My hip was aching as I expected after 2 days running and I felt tired and fat. I sat staring at the computer screen wondering what I should do, go back to bed, or go to the gym and do some weights? I felt lacklustre and lacking energy, but I decided to go down the gym remembering that in the past I have often felt like this and gone for a run or down the gym and felt much better after. I was hoping that today would have the same effect. I’m trying to do as much on a trip as I can, go to the gym then shopping after and anything else I need to do so that I save time, money, petrol etc, and every time I use my car I make the most out of it. Before I went to the gym I had to go to my local supermarket to get my little cat some of her favourite dried food. She’s not been eating well because of the heat, and I could tell she was feeling under the weather. Her favourite dried food did the trick though. She knew I had gone and got some for her, I’m always amazed at how she has some sort of sixth sense about what I’m doing, and it did the trick. She had a few mouthfuls of her favourite food, and she was back to her normal self, washing and making herself look beautiful as always.
With my little cat sorted I set off down to the gym which is only 3 miles down the road from me in Halifax. On the way I popped into the washeteria and left some clothes there. Since my washing machine broke down earlier in the year I haven’t bothered with one at home, using one a friend of mine owns. I haven’t missed having a washing machine and the washeteria has proved to be more economical in many ways.
I got to the gym and set about working on my chest, back and arms. I’m hoping that if I do this enough I’ll lose some weight. I did last time I tried this routine, years ago before the pandemic and it worked. Now I’m older and fatter, it’s going to be more work and take longer to achieve, but I’m sure I can do it. There’s no point trying if I don’t believe I can. It was a good workout, but I don’t know how my Garmin watch records it. I stopped and started my watch every time I did a set, but it recorded everything as I set with around 600 reps! I was hoping to improve my anaerobic load that my Garmin somehow records, but that didn’t work either as it barely registered on my watch. It’s something I’ll have to look into so that next time it looks like I’ve done something. I worked out for around 1 ½ hours and went for a sauna afterwards. The sauna is a big reason why I joined this gym. It’s so relaxing afterwards and you can feel the steam cleaning your skin and airways too.
On the way home I remembered to pick my washing up and had some porkchops with veg. and then I went downhill fast. I had planned to go to the club and have a few beers and play dominoes, but an immense feeling of tiredness swept over me, together with a headache and flu like symptoms, and it took everything I had just to walk upstairs to bed, where I crashed out for a good hour or so. When I woke I felt very tired and had a banging headache although the flu like symptoms had, thankfully, disappeared. I knew there was no way I could go to the club, I have done in the past and regretted it, so set about catching up on things.
I paid some bills, tried to sort out my mobile phone which has been eating data and not making calls very well. I went on the O2 website, and it said a nearby mast was undergoing repairs. This explained why when I rang O2 customer services I got cut off halfway through the call. This is something I need to follow up on tomorrow. Then I received some bad news that someone I used to know had sadly passed away after a short illness. I knew he was poorly, but his health had deteriorated rapidly recently, and he had finally succumbed to whatever it was he had. Then I tried to play one of my favourite games, Criminal Case, only to discover it was no longer available on Facebook. I felt disappointed as I enjoyed playing it, but I’ll have more time on my hands now instead of playing games all day.
I ended up surfing the net and watching an interesting program about Stirling Castle and its possible connection with King Arthur, before popping to my local Co-op and getting some lagers. I regretted it. I had a couple of cans and felt worse for it, bloated, and bunged up like I could explode at any time. I called it a day and went to bed hoping I would feel better tomorrow. It has been a tough day in many ways and one I was glad to see the back of.
